The factory hardtop for the NA and NB rattles and leaks as its seals and latch parts age. This page lists the replacement seals and latch parts sellers offer, and the rattle fixes owners describe. It is not a repair guide.

How to read it. Seller descriptions are from their own pages, and owner accounts from Miata.net forum threads, read on 1 October 2026 and dated below. Owners disagree, and none of it was tested by me. There are no prices on this page.

What owners say about rattles

  • Front latch pins. In "Ultimate solution for hardtop rattle" (April 2010, with posts to 2012) an owner who could not silence a creak from the windshield header latches cut small squares of microfiber cloth and squashed two layers between each latch pin and its striker socket when fitting the roof. Others reported success with the fuzzy side of adhesive hook-and-loop tape or with cut-up pieces of bicycle inner tube. One poster said it does not work if you add too many layers because the latch will not close, and another said a correctly adjusted roof should not need it (the roof has six adjustment points). The tip is reported to fall out if the latches are removed, and the owner removed it when he fitted the soft top.
  • Rear creak. One poster fixed a rear creak by tightening the rear latch bolts to lock down the "Frankenstein" bolts.

The thread I read is from 2010 to 2012. Search results list other hardtop threads, such as one on a stud coming loose and one on a rear latch; I did not read them.
