Exhaust (NC)
The NC's stock exhaust can rust and the car can drone on the highway, so owners often look at a replacement muffler or cat-back. This page lists what Moss describes for the NC and what an owner thread said. The NA, NB and ND have their own pages. It is not a repair guide.
How to read it. Seller claims are as read on each seller's own page on 2 October 2026. Owner accounts are from Miata.net forum threads, dated below, and are individual opinions, not advice. There are no prices on this page, and nothing here was bought or tested.
| Seller | What it says it offers | Fits (as stated) |
|---|---|---|
| Moss Miata, Magnaflow cat-back system | a cat-back made of 100 per cent stainless steel, TIG welded with smoothed welds, with a lifetime warranty from Magnaflow; it says NC owners must cut the stock pipe and the system slip-fits over the cut pipe, and it is for cars without the appearance package | 2006-2015 NC without the appearance package |
| Moss Miata, NC exhaust category | 42 items including Cobalt single-tip and dual-tip mufflers, a Cobalt stainless midpipe, a Racing Beat header, replacement upstream and downstream oxygen sensors and exhaust gaskets; I read the listing, not the product pages | 2006-2015 NC |
| Good-Win Racing, NC exhaust category | search results show its RoadsterSport mufflers and midpipes there; I did not open the page | 2006-2015 NC |
What an owner thread said
- Choosing an NC exhaust (August 2018). An owner of a 2008 PRHT Grand Touring asked which brands sound good. One poster praised the Good-Win RoadsterSport Super Q, saying it is quiet at a stop light, has a baritone at take-off and no "wah" sound. Another pointed to a Miata.net exhaust poll, and said his own is a Magnaflow cat-back. A third liked a RoadsterSport race muffler with a Helmholtz midpipe, said it is loud with burbles and pops, and warned that a PRHT car can drone in the cabin depending on the setup. (Miata.net thread; first page, sound is subjective.)
Search results for other Miata.net threads say NC owners complain of highway drone, that a Helmholtz midpipe removes the drone but leaves a higher-pitched sound, and that a rusted stock exhaust is often the reason to replace it; I did not read those threads, so treat them as leads. For the NA and NB see exhaust and for the ND see ND exhaust.

- Headers, resonators and legal or emissions rules for any exhaust change.
- What the NC appearance package changes about exhaust fitment, which Moss says matters.
