Wheel bearings and hubs (NC, ND)
Owners say wheel bearing failures are not common on the NC or ND, but they happen, and on both cars the hub and bearing are replaced as one unit. This page lists what Moss describes for the NC and what owners reported. It is not a repair guide.
How to read it. Seller claims are as read on each seller's own page on 1 October 2026. Owner accounts are from Miata.net forum threads, dated below, and are individual experience, not advice. There are no prices on this page, and nothing here was bought or tested.
NC (2006-2015)
| Seller | What it says it offers | Fits (as stated) |
|---|---|---|
| Moss Miata, wheel bearing | a bearing for the rear of 2006-2015 cars and the front of 2011-2015 cars; the description is generic text about bad bearings making wheels feel shaky or squeal | 2006-15 rear, 2011-15 front |
| Moss Miata, front wheel hub with ABS | a front hub; the same generic description | 2006-2015 |
| Moss Miata, rear wheel bearing | says it will help you replace bad bearings that cause loose wheels or early wear on rotors and pads | 2006-2015 |
| Mazda-Parts.com, Mazda hub assembly NE51-33-04XA | the genuine front hub and bearing, listed for the left and right front and described as "with ABS"; it supersedes NE51-33-04X | 2006-2015 |
ND (2016 on)
I found no ND wheel bearing or hub listing on the Moss pages I opened, but Mazda-Parts.com, a Mazda parts retailer, lists the genuine assemblies. It carries a note that not every part shown on the site is available for sale, and that you should add your vehicle to confirm the fit.
| Seller | What it says it offers | Fits (as stated) |
|---|---|---|
| Mazda-Parts.com, Mazda hub assembly N243-33-04X | the front wheel bearing and hub assembly; its description says "with brembo brakes", so check which front hub your car takes before ordering. Jim Ellis Mazda Parts lists the same number for both setups, with separate diagrams marked with and without Brembo brakes (read 2 October 2026), so one front hub number covers both | 2016-2025 |
| Mazda-Parts.com, Mazda hub assembly N243-26-15X | the rear hub and bearing assembly, listed for the left and right rear | 2016-2025 |
Owners in the thread below say the ND's bearing and hub come as one assembly from Mazda, which matches these listings.
What owners said
- An NC at 39,500 miles (April 2010). An owner of a 2007 GT had a speed-sensitive whine that went away when he turned left, which he took for a wheel bearing. His dealer replaced both rear bearings under the powertrain warranty and gave him a loaner car, but he said the warranty did not cover the fronts. One reply said bearing quality seemed to be going down because part of the race is now built into the surrounding part; another said he had to replace his truck's bearings at about 70,000 miles. (Miata.net thread; I read the first page.)
- The ND (September 2020). Asked whether bearings are common, one poster said he had never heard of anyone needing one, and another said bad bearings are not common on the ND. Others reported their own: one replaced all four, the fronts at about 60,000 miles with knock-back and a wobble at speed and the rears at about 90,000 with a groan when turning, which went away with new hubs, on bumpy roads. One had a left rear bearing replaced under warranty after 1,000 miles, and another had a left rear fail at 58,000 miles with no track use or hard driving. One poster said the ND has roller bearings and that the hub and bearing are replaced together, and that without racing the usual cause of failure is a bad seal letting moisture in. (Miata.net thread.)
For the ND's rear hub carrier and bushings, which are a different problem, see rear end creak and knock. Search results also mention Mazda replacement bearings that were noisy and a knuckle that stressed the bearing, which I did not read.
Not covered yet
- A Moss or Flyin' Miata ND hub, and aftermarket hubs for the NC and ND.
- NA and NB bearings, which fail in a different way on track cars.
