The NA, NB and NC have hydraulic power steering, so leaks and a whining pump are the usual complaints; the ND's is electric. This page lists what Moss describes and what two owner threads said. It is not a repair guide.

How to read it. Seller claims are as read on each seller's own page on 2 October 2026. Owner accounts are from Miata.net forum threads, dated below, and are individual opinions, not advice. There are no prices on this page, and nothing here was bought or tested.

SellerWhat it says it offersFits (as stated)
Moss Miata, power steering pumplisted simply as "Power Steering Pump"; its related-parts list pairs it with a Gates power steering and A/C belt and an I.L. Motorsports cooler tube1990-1997 NA
Moss Miata, power steering rack and piniona remanufactured rack and pinion assembly1999-2005 NB
Moss Miata, NC steering category9 items: a power steering rack and pinion (shown as unavailable when I looked), inner and outer tie rods, left and right rack boots, polyurethane rack bushings from Energy Suspension, a Moroso aluminium power steering reservoir and Paco Motorsports eccentric locks; I read the listing, not the product pages2006-2015 NC
Moss Miata, outer steering tie roda tie rod end; the page says a shaky steering wheel or uneven tire wear can mean the end needs replacing and that you can buy individual pieces or a set2016-2025 ND

Moss's search results also show a power steering pump seal kit for the early NA, rack boots, a reservoir, hoses and a power steering belt for the NA and NB; I did not open those pages. The ND's steering is electric, so the hydraulic pump and rack parts above do not apply to it. Search results also show genuine Mazda inner and outer tie rods for the ND (N243-32-240 and N243-32-280) and a 2024-2025 steering gear (NG7D-32-110C); I did not open those pages.

What owners said

  • A leaking NB rack (June 2020). An owner whose rack seals were gone bought a Gates seal kit from Rock Auto and asked how to free the locknut on the adjuster bolt. A reply suggested penetrating oil, holding the bolt with a wrench, and using the longest extension and a pipe on the locknut, with an impact gun a possibility. (Miata.net thread; first page.)
  • A whining NC pump (November 2018). The owner of a 2010 Touring said the pump whined on turning and the fluid looked foamy, right after a mechanic replaced the idler pulley, tensioner and belt, and that the mechanic told him the pump would need changing soon. He suspected the suction pipe was bent or its O-ring was no longer sealing and planned to straighten it and fit a new O-ring. A reply agreed that the mechanic probably knocked the reservoir and bent the line, so air leaks past the O-ring and foams the fluid. (Miata.net thread; first page, I did not read to the end to see the outcome.)

Search results for other Miata.net threads say NB owners rebuild racks with seal kits, that the NC pump suction line has a tab that bends easily and lets air in, and that the right fluid matters; I did not read those threads, so treat them as leads.
