Version 2 · Effective September 29, 2026

In short

  • Ref Sensor is a notebook, not a service manual. It picks out steps and specs automatically and can get them wrong: check everything against your car's factory service information, and work safely.
  • Working on a car can cause serious injury, death, fire and damage. You do it at your own risk, and section 5 includes a release of claims.
  • Guides, videos, sites, shops and catalogs the app imports or links to belong to others. We don't check them. Save pages only for your own reference.
  • Your notes and photos are yours, and the app never sends them to us. Keep your own backups; we can't recover lost data.
  • Daily Driver is a one-year pass that never renews or charges you again by itself. Keeper is a one-time purchase. Sharing a service record needs one of them. When a pass ends, nothing you saved is deleted or locked, but sharing a service record stops until you buy again.
  • You must be 18 or older. North Carolina law applies, without taking away your consumer rights where you live.

These Terms of Use ("terms") are an agreement between you and Fischer Interactive LLC, a North Carolina limited liability company ("we", "us"). They cover the Ref Sensor app for Android ("the app"), including its paid features and updates. The app is offered in the United States. Our Privacy Policy explains how the app handles information.

1. Accepting these terms

The first time you open the app, and again when these terms change in a way that affects your rights, the app shows these terms and asks you to tick "I have read and agree to the Terms of Use" and tap Agree and continue. Doing so is your agreement to these terms. The app saves on your phone which version you agreed to and when. If you don't agree, don't use the app.

2. Who can use the app

You must be 18 or older and have reached the age of majority where you live (for example, 19 in Alabama and Nebraska, 21 in Mississippi). If you haven't, don't use the app.

3. Your license

We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on Android devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use: working on your own cars, or helping family and friends without pay. You may not use it in a repair business or for paid work without our written permission. We keep all other rights in the app, including its design, text and tool kits. You may not:

  • copy, sell, rent or redistribute the app;
  • reverse engineer or modify it, except where the law allows this despite this limit;
  • get around the free limits or purchase checks; or
  • use the app to break the law or infringe anyone's rights.

This license is in addition to the license the Google Play Developer Distribution Agreement requires us to give you. If they conflict, that agreement controls.

4. A notebook, not a service manual

Ref Sensor stores and organizes repair information you choose to save. It is not a service manual. We aren't mechanics, and we don't give professional advice. We don't write, check or approve the procedures you import. The tutorial's practice procedure and our tool kits are examples only. They are not instructions or specifications for your car.

The app picks out steps, tools, torque specs, pictures and safety notes automatically, and that can go wrong. It can miss, merge or reorder steps, leave out warnings, pick up the wrong number or unit, or put a picture by the wrong step. Read aloud can misread numbers and units. Voice control can mishear a command and move to the wrong step. Tool kits may be incomplete or wrong for your car.

Before you rely on any procedure, specification, tool size or part number, check it against the manufacturer's service information for your exact vehicle, and read the original guide, including its warnings. Don't use the app as your only source.

5. Safety, assumption of risk and release

WORKING ON A CAR IS DANGEROUS. IT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY, DEATH, FIRE, AND DAMAGE TO YOUR CAR AND OTHER PROPERTY.

  • Never work under a car held up only by a jack. Use rated jack stands or ramps on firm, level ground.
  • Take special care with brakes, steering, suspension, fuel, airbags and wiring. A mistake there can cause a fire or crash long after the job is done.
  • Use the right tools and safety gear, and follow the tool and parts makers' instructions.
  • Old brake and clutch parts may contain asbestos. Springs and struts under compression can cause serious injury.
  • Disconnect the battery before electrical or airbag work, and follow the manual's waiting time for airbags.
  • After brake, steering or suspension work, test at low speed before driving, and have the work inspected if you're unsure.
  • Don't use the app while driving. Garage mode and voice control are for a parked car.
  • If you're not sure you can do a job safely, have a qualified mechanic do it.

You decide whether a job is safe and within your skills, and you're responsible for how it turns out, including any effect on your car's warranty, insurance or inspection and for following the laws that apply to your car.

ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND RELEASE. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS: (A) YOU VOLUNTARILY ASSUME ALL RISKS OF WORKING ON OR DRIVING A VEHICLE, INCLUDING RISKS FROM ERRORS, OMISSIONS OR MISREADINGS IN ANY INFORMATION THE APP SHOWS OR READS ALOUD; AND (B) YOU RELEASE FISCHER INTERACTIVE LLC AND ITS OWNERS, EMPLOYEES AND CONTRACTORS FROM ALL CLAIMS FOR PERSONAL INJURY, DEATH OR PROPERTY DAMAGE ARISING FROM THAT WORK OR FROM YOUR USE OF INFORMATION IN THE APP, INCLUDING CLAIMS BASED ON OUR OWN NEGLIGENCE. This release binds you, your heirs and your estate. It doesn't cover fraud, gross negligence, or willful or wanton misconduct, or any claim the law doesn't allow to be released.

6. Other people's content and links

The app lets you open and save pages from other websites, and it links to parts catalogs, service manuals, repair sites, forums, shops and YouTube channels. We don't own, control, check or endorse any of them. They may be wrong or out of date, and may change or disappear. A link or suggestion is not a recommendation of any shop, part or seller, and anything you arrange with them is between you and them. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them.

Saving pages. Saving a page makes a copy on your phone. Many sites allow copies only for personal, non-commercial reference, and only if their copyright notice stays on. When you save a page, you agree to:

  • save it only for your own personal reference, and follow the site's terms;
  • keep the site's name, link and copyright notice that the app saves with it;
  • not publish, sell, post or share copies of saved pages or their pictures, including in backup files you give to others; and
  • delete a saved page if its owner asks you to.

Copyright notices. If you believe something the app links to, or our website, infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent, registered with the U.S. Copyright Office (DMCA-1081324): Copyright Agent, Fischer Interactive LLC, 3410 Delamere Dr, Matthews, NC 28104; phone 980-202-1550; email support@fischerinteractive.com, with the subject "Copyright notice". Include your physical or electronic signature; the work you say is infringed; the link or material you want removed and where it appears in the app; your contact details; a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized by the owner, its agent or the law; and a statement that your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner. We'll remove or disable links we find infringing. Saved pages are only on users' phones; we can't see or remove them. If we remove something because of a notice and you believe that was a mistake or misidentification, you can send a counter-notice to the same agent with your physical or electronic signature; what was removed and where it appeared; a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification; your name, address and phone number; and your consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if you're outside the US, any district where we can be found) and to accept service from the person who sent the notice. We may end the license of anyone who repeatedly infringes.

Some links or listings may later become affiliate or referral links, sponsored or featured placements, or come with a partner's discount code, which means we could earn a commission or other payment. If that happens, we'll say so next to those links or listings. Unless one is marked that way, what the app suggests, and in what order, isn't paid for.

7. Your content

Your notes, photos, jobs and service records are yours, and we claim no rights in them. Pages and pictures you save from other sites still belong to their owners (see section 6). Your content is stored on your phone and is never sent to us. If Android's backup is on, Android may copy your notes and settings (not photos) to your Google account, and a direct phone-to-phone transfer can also copy your photos. Backup files go wherever you save them. The Privacy Policy explains this.

Because we never have your content, we can't recover it. Backups are up to you: use "Save backup file" and keep those files somewhere safe. Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage deletes everything saved on the phone; Android's backup may bring your notes back when you reinstall or set up a new phone.

If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.

8. Purchases

Free version (Project Car). Every feature except the service record (a PDF of a car's finished jobs) is included, within these limits: 1 car at a time, plus 3 procedures and 3 jobs in all. The procedure and job limits count every one you've added, even if you delete it later. Deleting a procedure within 24 hours of adding it gives the slot back, unless it was used for a finished job; deleting a job within 24 hours gives its slot back, unless the job was finished. A finished job can be reopened within 24 hours of finishing it; after that, only with Daily Driver or Keeper. The tutorial's practice procedure and job don't count.

Daily Driver (one-year pass). Unlimited cars, procedures and jobs, and the service record, for one year, for US$29.44 (or the price shown when you buy). It is prepaid: it does not renew and we never charge you again unless you buy another year. You can buy another year at any time; it adds on to the end of the current one. About 30 days before your year ends, the app shows a reminder, and a phone notification too if you allow notifications. The reminder is a courtesy: if you miss it, you aren't charged and the pass simply ends. Google Play's record decides when your pass ends. We don't give partial refunds for unused time, except where Google Play's refund policies or the law require one.

Keeper (one-time purchase). Unlimited cars, procedures and jobs, and the service record, for US$94.40, paid once, with no renewal, for as long as the app works on your device. It's linked to the Google account you bought it with and works on Android devices signed in to that account. Buying Keeper doesn't refund or credit time left on a Daily Driver pass.

When a pass ends, or a purchase is refunded or reversed, unlimited use ends, the free limits apply again, and you can't share a new service record. Nothing you saved is deleted or locked: you can still see, edit and back up everything, including the job history a service record is made from, and finish jobs you've started, but you can't add more than the free limits allow, and finished jobs can't be reopened after 24 hours. Service records you've already shared are yours to keep.

Prices. Prices in these terms are in US dollars; the app and Google Play show your price and any tax. We may change prices for future purchases. A change never affects a pass or Keeper purchase you've already made.

Payments and refunds. You buy Daily Driver and Keeper from us. Google Play processes the payment for us, collects any sales tax, and may give refunds under its refund policies. You can also ask us at support@fischerinteractive.com. Google Play's terms govern your Google account and payments. Google is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for the app or its support; these terms are between you and us.

9. NO WARRANTY (varies by state)

THE APP AND EVERYTHING IN IT, INCLUDING EXTRACTED STEPS AND SPECIFICATIONS, SAFETY NOTES, READ ALOUD, TOOL KITS, THE PRACTICE PROCEDURE, LINKS AND IMPORTED CONTENT, IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE". TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON'T WARRANT THAT ANY PROCEDURE, TORQUE VALUE, TOOL SIZE OR PART NUMBER IS CORRECT, COMPLETE OR SAFE FOR YOUR VEHICLE. We don't promise the app will be error-free.

Some states don't allow implied warranties to be excluded, so some of this may not apply to you.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows:

  • WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST DATA, LOST PROFITS OR BUSINESS, OR THE COST OF REPAIRS, PARTS, TOWING OR A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE, arising from the app or these terms, even if we knew they were possible.
  • OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE APP OR THESE TERMS IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) WHAT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) US$50.

Claims for personal injury or death are covered by section 5, not by the two limits above. These limits don't apply to our fraud, gross negligence, or willful or wanton misconduct, or to any liability or consumer right that can't be limited under the law that applies to you.

11. Trademarks and no affiliation

Ref Sensor™ is a trademark of Fischer Interactive LLC.

Ref Sensor is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Porsche Cars North America, Inc., Mazda Motor Corporation, Mazda Motor of America, Inc., Google LLC, or any other vehicle maker, dealer, website, channel, shop or catalog the app links to, except for affiliate, referral or sponsored arrangements we disclose next to the link, as section 6 describes. Porsche, 924, 944, 968 and other Porsche model designations are trademarks of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG. Mazda, Miata and MX-5 are trademarks of Mazda Motor Corporation. Google Play and YouTube are trademarks of Google LLC. Other names belong to their owners. We use them only to identify the cars, parts and services they refer to.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Each version has its own number and date, is posted at https://fischerinteractive.com/refsensor/terms.html, and reaches you in an app update. If a change affects your rights, the app shows what changed and asks you to agree before you continue. Corrections, clarifications and new contact details apply from the update that contains them. A change never reduces a pass or Keeper purchase you've already made, and never applies to a dispute that arose before it. If you don't agree, stop using the app; it will still let you save a backup file first.

13. Ending these terms

You can end these terms any time by uninstalling the app. Save a backup file first if you want your data. Your license ends automatically if you seriously break these terms. We may stop offering or updating the app at any time. These sections continue after the terms end: "A notebook, not a service manual", "Safety, assumption of risk and release", "Other people's content and links", "Your content", "No warranty", "Limitation of liability", "Governing law and disputes" and "Other terms".

14. Governing law and disputes

North Carolina law and applicable US federal law govern these terms and any dispute about the app, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

If you have a problem, please email support@fischerinteractive.com first and give us 30 days to try to resolve it. This never makes you miss a legal deadline.

Either of us may bring a qualifying claim in small claims court where you live. Otherwise, you may bring a claim in the state courts of Union County, North Carolina, or in the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina (Charlotte Division), and we both consent to those courts' jurisdiction. If you live in North Carolina, you may also sue in any county the law allows. If the law where you live gives you the right to bring or defend a claim in your home courts, you keep that right. We will only sue you in the courts where you live.

Nothing in these terms limits a right or remedy that the law where you live gives consumers and that can't be waived by contract.

15. Other terms

  • These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the app. Google Play's terms govern your relationship with Google.
  • If any part of these terms is unenforceable, it will be enforced as far as the law allows, and the rest stays in effect.
  • If we don't enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later.
  • You may not transfer these terms or your purchases, except as Google Play allows. We may transfer these terms to a business that takes over the app, if it takes on our obligations to you and your rights are not reduced.
  • Headings and the "In short" box are for convenience; the full text controls.
